With the continued exceptionally dry weather, the League has issued guidance for clubs, managers and coaches regarding the use of grass pitches.

There is NO blanket suspension of football on dry grass pitches.
A pitch being brown, dry or dormant does not automatically mean that it is unsafe or unplayable. The important consideration is the actual condition of the playing surface and the safety of the players.
Before training sessions and fixtures, managers and coaches should check the pitch carefully, paying particular attention to:
• Surface hardness
• Cracks or uneven ground
• Bare or badly worn areas
• Any other hazards that could present a risk to players
If there are concerns about a pitch, please speak to the groundskeeper or pitch provider and contact the opposition and League as early as possible. This gives everyone the opportunity to consider alternative arrangements and helps avoid unnecessary travel.
On match days: where a referee has been appointed, the referee has the final decision on whether the pitch is suitable for play. This decision should be based on the actual condition of the pitch and player safety, rather than simply how dry or brown the grass appears.
Please also remember that many of our referees are under 18 and still gaining valuable experience. Managers, coaches and spectators should respect their decision and give them the support they need.

Player safety comes first – but a dry-looking pitch isn’t automatically an unplayable pitch.
