Player safety is always a priority at Park Regis Junior Football Club, and we would like to remind all players, parents and coaches about The FA’s guidance regarding shin pads.
Shin pads are a compulsory part of a player’s equipment. The FA’s guidance highlights that the amount of the shin covered by the shin pad is important, as the purpose of shin pads is to help protect players from injury.

In recent years, very small “mini” or “micro” shin pads have become increasingly popular. The FA has highlighted that these smaller pads provide less coverage of the shin and may therefore increase the risk of injury.
Choosing suitable shin pads
The FA advises players and parents to consider how much protection their shin pads actually provide. At Park Regis JFC, we therefore encourage:
- Shin pads that are appropriately sized for the individual player.
- Pads that cover a good proportion of the shin and provide reasonable protection.
- Parents of younger players to regularly check that their child’s shin pads remain suitable as they grow.
- Players to wear their shin pads correctly and ensure they are completely covered by their socks.
- Coaches to remind their players about the importance of suitable shin protection.
The FA’s Laws of the Game require shin guards to be made of suitable material and be of an appropriate size to provide reasonable protection.
We ask all Park Regis JFC players and parents to consider protection and good shin coverage when choosing shin pads, helping us to keep everyone as safe as possible while enjoying their football.
Thank you for your support.
